Thom Lattig receives the Leadership and Service Award from MAFCA

The MAFCA Winter Meeting was held at the Weber’s Hotel in Ann Arbor on February 26 and 27. Approximately 50 MAFCA members gathered to begin a day filled with presentations and discussion on the first day of the meeting. One person who planned to merely attend the meeting, rather than lead the discussion, for the first time in a long time was Thom Lattig. The MAFCA Board had other plans, and Thom was called forward to kick off the festivities by receiving the Leadership and Service Award, presented to him by the Board.

Thom was the MAFCA President from 2020-2023, and again in 2025. He has been a tireless worker and leader for the MAFCA organization through both COVID and Michigan’s Juvenile Justice Reform, and he has succeeded in developing lasting relationships with stakeholders, including partner organizations such as NMJOA, JJAM, and MJDA. He has continued to work hard as a member of the legislative workgroup committee that is tasked with addressing both the detention and residential crisis and ongoing concerns with child welfare in Michigan. Thom is solution-focused, collaborative, and measured in his approach to problems. He also sets an excellent example for others by setting high standards for himself, and by always being willing to lend a hand to fellow court professionals and friends.

Thom, you have been a champion for Michigan youth and families, and for the courts that serve them. Thank-you for your service, and congratulations for earning this award for your distinguished service as a leader of MAFCA!
