Thom Lattig was honored with MAFCA’s Leadership and Service Award at the Winter Meeting in Ann Arbor for his steady leadership, collaboration, and ongoing advocacy for Michigan youth, families, and courts.

While many associate the Michigan Office of the Child Advocate (OCA) primarily with foster care, their independent authority also extends to protecting youth in the juvenile justice system. OCA investigates confidential complaints regarding safety, conditions, and treatment within residential placements and detention centers to ensure state laws are followed.

The University of Michigan Program Evaluation Group, in collaboration with MAFCA and MJDA, presents the final evaluation report on the implementation of the MJJAS/OYAS-DET screener across Michigan. This report analyzes the impact of the “Michigan Justice for Kids and Community” legislation on detention decision-making, offering key findings and practitioner recommendations.
